Bwin Can Be Blocked by Portugal Monopoly, Court Says (Update1) (Bloomberg)

Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) — Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG , an online bookmaker, will lose its challenge to Portugal’s national gambling monopoly if the government can prove that it is attempting to fight fraud and crime.

EU court upholds Portuguese gambling rules (AP via Yahoo! Finance)

The EU’s Court of Justice has upheld Portuguese restrictions on online gambling. The Luxembourg-based court threw out a case brought against the Portuguese government’s nonprofit lottery and betting organization by Gibraltar-based BWIN and the Portuguese professional soccer league.
